SRTP in brief
SEPA Request-To-Pay (SRTP) is an electronic message for payment requests. It is initiated by the payee and transmitted to the payer in real time.

This rather simple idea offers more than meets the eye. Because in combination with the existing real-time payments, it opens up a wide range of possibilities for European payment transactions.
The development of SRTP
The SRTP rulebook was published by the European Payments Council (EPC) at the end of 2020 in version 1.0, effective June 15, 2021. On June 1, 2022, the successor version 2.0 already came into force.
And shortly before that, on May 25, 2022, the EPC launched a public consultation for version 3.0 of SRTP. Since the feedback period for comments ended on August 26, 2022, the new version is already in the starting blocks.
It can be assumed that the upcoming specification will support significantly more use cases and thus help SRTP to achieve a breakthrough.
The German Banking Industry Committee also plans to include the new standard in Annex 3 of the DFÜ agreement.
